In this collection of essays and interviews previously published
between 1982 and 2001, longtime tennis writer Paul Fein gives readers
an inside look at the pro game. But unlike other tennis books on
the market, TENNIS CONFIDENTIAL gives readers a look at the sport
from a variety of angles.
First he offers a series of insightful portraits of stars such
as the Williams sisters, Andre Agassi, Anna Kournikova, Bjorn Borg,
Rod Laver, and Martina Navratilova, followed by interviews with
Pete Sampras, Jimmy Connors, Bobby Riggs, and other well-known players.
Then Fein presents essays that delve into the issues and controversies
surrounding tennis. How will power affect the game? Will blacks
dominate professional tennis? Would on-court coaching be bad for
the sport? Should the service let be abolished? Whether you agree
or disagree with Fein's generally conservative, traditional positions;and
I disagreed with more than one--you'll find his arguments stimulating
and be impressed with his passion for the sport.
>Trivia buffs will enjoy Fein's liberal use of "Fascinating Facts"
which are placed throughout. The last two sections feature a collection
of 20th-century retrospectives, plus Fein's list of the 10 greatest
matches in history. Serious fans will appreciate TENNIS CONFIDENTIAL.
